ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. THE COMING CHAMPIONSHIPS. The thirty-fourth annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association was held at the Star Boating Club’s roins last evening. There were about a dozen members present, Mr G. Lauchlan presiding. An apology for unavoidable absence was received from Mr R. W. MeVilly. The annual report and balance-sheet showed a balance of assets over liabilities of A l2O 16s lid, and a credit balance in the bank of JC37 17s 3d. The association membership comprised 44 affiliated clubs. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr A. Gray (Wanganui); vicepresidents, Mr G. il. Heston (Auckland) and Mr F. D. Keeteven (Canterbury); hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr A. D. Bayfield; council, Messrs J. N. Barnes, K. W. MeVilly, E. E. Innes (chairman), G. Lauchlan, B. A. Marris, D. R. Menzies and E- Diehl; auditor, Mr G. C. Fache. The championships were allocated to the Wanganui Association. The interprovincial fours were allotted to Canterbury, with the recommendation that the event be held on a day separate from the regatta, but within a day or two of that occasion to obviate the dc'.:)rli__ _T travelling expenses of- visiting crews. A proposal for the alteration of the rules to. allow a full crew of substitutes was defeated by 16 votes to 7. A proposal by the Wellington. Rowing Association regarding alterations to maiden sculling boats was carried by 13 votes, to 10. v A motion on the part of the Auckland Association desiring that championship coats be given to interprovincial fours was rejected through a ruling by the chairman that notice of motion was necessary. Notice was thereupon duly given. It was moved on behalf of the Auckland Association and carried, that immediate steps be taken by-the council to institute a fund for providing representation by New Zealand oarsmen at overseas regattas such as ihp Olympic games. The matter of officials of amateur rowing clubs acting officiallv at the forthcoming professional sculling race I*tween Amst and Hadfield was referred to the council for a ruling. 1 It was urged that an attempt be made to institute interest in eight-oar boats, but it was pointed out that the high cost of such boats (about .£150) made the matter impracticable in the meanwhile, and that the waiter at some of the centres was unfavourable for eight-oar boats. The heartiest appreciation of the services of the hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr A. D. Bayfeild, was voiced snd a honorarium of J5lO was voted him. The valued work of Mr J. E. Widdop, a late member of the council, was expressed by a special motion. It was carried that a notice of motion be given to the council that the council go into the whole question of donations towards the expenses of winning crews at all regattas.
