HUTT BULB SHOW
A SITCCESSPUL EXHIBITION. CHAMPION BLOOMS. The Hutt Valley Horticultural Society’s show, which was held in King George Theatre, Lower Hutt, closed last evening. As an exhibition of spring blooms the show was recognised as one of the best held in the district, which is famed' for its horticulture. Thera was a large attendance during the afternoon and evening, many visitors from the city being present. The beauty of the exhibits was not done justice to in the daylight on account of the theatre, which is used for picture entertainments, being too dark, but under the artificial light in the evening Ihe blooms showed to much greater advantage. CHAMPION BLOOMS. The championship for the short cup narcissi was awarded to Mr H. Burgess (Waikanae) for his exhibit of a specimen of "Croesus.” The bloom was delicate, well-grown, and possessed a brilliant scarlet cup, flat at the edges, and the perianth was almost pure white. In the long cup, or trumpet varieties, A. J. Hobbs (Lower Hutt) secured the championship with an unnamed seedling. LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ TROPHY. Robert Gibson (Manama) was awarded the Licensed Victuallers’ trophy, this exhibitor having obtained the largest aggregate points in the first fifteen sections of the open class. The general arrangements of the show were carried out In an efficient manner, and those responsible were Mr M. J. Jtlodgins (secretary), members of the j general and ladies’ committees. | The judges were:—Narcissi: Open 1 class, Mr Charles Goods oil (Hawera); amateur class, Mr C. Buckingham (Lower I-lutt): general classes and stands for exhibit, Mr G. A. Chapman (Lower Hutt); decorative classes, Miss Cooper.
