PROPOSED INTERVENTION BY FAMINE THREATENED.
Reuter’s Telegram. DELHI, August 28. The Provincial Congress Cbtmmiittee ait Kenala baa invited Ghandi and Mohmed Ali, another leader, to visit the Mailaibar fcrea to pacify the fanatical Moplahs. The District Magistrate confirms the report of the murder of Eaton, and also reports wholesale arson and looting, and occasional murders throughout the affected area, which, owing to the disorganised communications, is threatened with famine. A report from Manerji states that trees have been cut down wholesale, and bridges and culverts destroyed, to prevent the entry of troops. The fanatics have proclaimed disturbed areas in Swaraj, and have hoisted the green flag as the signal for revolt. * Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, August 28.
The India Office reports that, owing to the dl s loea:tion of • transport, the whole of the Malafoair area, is threatened with famine.
