As the floods in the northern _ rivers recede, reports from outlying districts which were previously cut off by the flood-waters, show that the losses of stock and crops and the damage generally were very serious, and widespread.. Much suffering was endured by the marooned people. Many sensational escapes are recorded. In a number of oases houses were washed away bodily. The people in the flooded townships are now busily cleaning up the deep mud deposited in the ‘streets and houses, removing the debris, including dead animals, and righting many notifies v which had shifted their tounuamons. ,
