EMPIRE AIR SERVICE
CONFERENCE TO CONSIDER REPORT. A MISLEADING SUMMARY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, July 27. A special meeting of the Conference to-morrow considers the report on the airship service. The Australian Press Agency learns that the “Daily Chronicle’s” summary of the Aviation Committee’s report is misleading. It is believed that the report does not jnako any recommendations whatever, but merely sets out the costs of commissioning and operating the existing fleets of airships for the purposes of Imperial communications between England, India, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, as compared with an alternative service by aeroplanes. The committee dealt with various schemes involving governmental expenditure by Britain and the Dominions, also with Mr Aehbolt’s and other "civil proposals, but have not committed themselves to any scheme. It is understood that the immediate result will be to obviate the scrapping of tho Imperial Airship Department, which the British Government contemplated, doing in the middle of August, leaving the Imperial and Dominion , Governments a.n opportunity of considering the committee’s report either during this or subsequent conferences.
