SUGAR REFINERY

TO BE CLOSED DOWN. The Board of Trade received word yesterday from the manager of the sugar refinery at Auckland that tho works at -Chelsea were to he closed down early next week owing to the shortage of supplies of raw sugar. There is stated to he sufficient stocks of refined sugar to meet the demand for at least a month, and it is anticipated that the Chelsea works will start again as soon as supplies can be .obtained from the Islands, tho shortage being brought about through the difficulty that has been experienced in obtaining freightage. -
