FARMERS AND SHIPS
NEW COMPANY PROPOSAL. THE ADVISABILITY OP STATE AID. The question of a farmers’ shipping company was brought up at the Farmers’ Union Conference yesterday. Mr ¥. J. Poison (Fardell) moved: “That this conference is in favour of a State-aided Dominion Shipping Company.” Mr Poison said the matter was under consideration by the Producers’ Committee, and the resolution might be adopted and sent to the committee. The committee had contemplated proposing a scheme containing a form of State aid, but he was not at liberty to divulge details. Mr W. B. Mathbson (Eketahhna) deprecated this “Secrecy.” Mr' G. L Marshall (Marton) said the Prime Minister had naked that details should not be divulged while they were still under consideration. Opposition to State aid was expressed by Mr R. D. Dux field (Morrtasville), who thought the farmers had suffered from too much State interference. The discussion will be -continued today.
