EVANS BAY SITE
CONDEMNED Bx MR T. BUCKLEIY. By special invitation of the Eastern Suburbs Leagpe, Air T. Buckley addressed a meeting of that-body on the subject of the Evans Bay site for the new electric power station. He dwelt exhaustively with tho reports made in 1910 by Mr Birks, Air Holmes, and Mr Richardson in their relation to the supply of power to Wellington from a water scheme of the Government. He traced the ElSEory of the sites, and urged and* impressed on the league that the Evans Bay site was really unnecessary; that equal advantages could be got by using Harris street as the site, at a saving of approximately .£160,000, and that at this time, when moving is extremely difficult and coal scarce and dear, it was desirable to maintain standing charges at the lowest possible figure, particularly as the Minister had given indication' of an increase in cost of 40 per cent, in the installation of the Government water scheme, and that whatever works had to he curtailed, this work would be prosecuted with ail vigour. Mr Dunbar Sloane, by invitation, spoke on the same subject. The speakers were accorded a. hearty vote of thanks. Discusaiqp on the matter was adjourned.
