TROTTING ASSOCIATION
PROTEST FROM DUNEDIN. CONFERENCE PROPOSALS DISCUSSED. PIS PRESS ASSOCIATIOW. CHRISTCHURCH, May 11. At a meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association, a letter was received from the Forbuiy Park Trotting Club conveying the following resolution:—“ln reply to the board’s resolution. regarding tn© starting, at the club’s meeting, the committee of the Forbury Park Club deprecate the action of the New Zealand Trotting Association in. passing the resolution, and are of the opinion that the association should be very careful before taking up such an attitude. In this case the starting at the club’s spring and summer meetings was very good. and the associations statement that a’'change was made in the system -at the latter’s meeting is incorrect. The assistant appointed at the summer 1 meeting had no previous experience. and Simply performed the duties previously carried out by an experienced steward, of the club. The stewards 6t the club are quite as .much concerned, and olaim they have done as much for the welfare of the sport, as members of the Trotting Association, and, like the latter, are an elective body, with quite as much experience." After discussion, it was decided to lot the letter' lie on the table. The board discussed, in committee, the proposals to bo brought forward on its behalf, at the meeting of the Trotting Conference. One proposal will be: ■'That in all handicap events the handicapped- shall make a distance allowance an! not a time allowance”; another, “That in the event of the hand)capper not being present at the meeting, the club shall appoint a substitute to do anv re-handicapping”; and a third,. “That the minimum _ fine for starting before time be -25.” i
