RECORD NUMBER. OF LICENSES GOOD BAGS OF DUCKS.
Mr B. J. C. Wiffin presided at last night’s meeting of the council of the Acclimatisation Society the other members present being Messrs J. S. Fleming, F. Dyer, and the secretary (Mr C. I. Dasent). Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from other members. The ranger reported that some good heads had been reported in the Ohau Gorge in April last. In the Peraparaumu district three heads had been taken, one being a ltpointer. best for several years, another an 11-pointer with a 39in spread; and the thrid a somewhat poor 10-pointer. _ The council resolved to grant a reward to a Levin constable who had helped to secure a conviction of a man on a charge of unlawfully shooting game. The North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society wrote offering to 1 sell the society a quantity of brown trout ova. The offer was -referred to the fish committeo. Mr Dver reported that ducks are very plentiful at the Wairarapa Lake this season, and that good bags have been obtained.' The secretary stated that the number of licenses issued this year for stagshooting constituted a record. Mr Millar (curator.)- reported that the prospects for trapping for trout ova in connection with the Masterton trouthatchery were very excellent this season. last year, said the secretary, 280,000 very good eggs had been secured in that way at a cost of Is 6d a thousand. The ballot for three seats on the new council resulted in favour of Messrs L. O. H. Tripp (president), P. Whitßy, and A. A. Seed.
