The Swiss census, which took place shortly before Christmas, shows the smallest increase in the population hitherto recorded. This is partly due to the great exodus of foreigners caused by the war, and partly to the fact that emigration is again in full swing. Allahabad is the holy city of the Indian Mohammedans. Benares is the holy e!Ty of the Hindus, 'jrhile Cuzco is -Shat of the ancient/ Incae. Jerusalem is the holy city of the Jews and Christians.
