CLOSING THORNDON BATHS
THE DISTRICT’S WANTS. CHAIRMAN WAXES SARCASTIC. The demolition of the old bath buiiding at Thorndon was the subject of a letter read at yesterday’s meeting of the Wellington Education Board. Th© headmaster of the Thorndon Normal School wrote requesting the board to take action in regard to the provision of baths to serve the Thorndon district. m _ ~ , The chairman (Mr T. Forsyth) said that the City Council had decided to close and demolish the bath building pn account of the silting up that was taking place. At the request of an influential deputation of residents some months ago the council bad kept the baths open until recently, hut it had been obliged to close them on account of the unsatisfactory takings. Only £3 bad been taken during the past year. Apparently the gentlemen of the deputation who had impressed upon the council that they were using the baths regularly, had complimentary tickets! The council was now considering the provision of other baths for the *** The letter was accordingly referred to the City Council.
