LIFE-SAVING

.EXHIBITION" AT LOWER HUTT. President T. Shields, of the Life-saving Association, provided to the Lower Hutt on Saturday afternoon, and gave, an exhibition of swimming, diving and trickswimming/ The Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr B. P. Rishworth) in the course of an. address mentioned the great necessity of forming a life-saving class at Lower Hutt, in view of the fact that within the last three months there had been three drowning fatalities there. Mt Shields strongly endorsed the Mayor's remarks and stated he was wiling to help the scheme and would give the necessary instruction. Those present enjoyed the clever exhibition of "water craft/* The Mayor entertained the swimmers at Cotton’s Tearooms, and stated that the sum of riS24< had been collected for the Boye’s fund.

Congratulations were extended to the president for the able manner in which he had carried out the afternoon's performance.
