News has just been received that the yacht Celox, when racing yesterday, capsized off Waiheke Tho owner, Mr Dale Spencer, a well-kn.own yachtsman and boat builder, together with his son aged five years, were both drowned. * The remainder of the crew, numbering tluee, were rescued. BOY’S NARROW ESCAPE. KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR-CAR. A juvenile resident of Northland had a miraculous escape from serious injury on Saturday. A .motor-car proceeding up the sinuous passage of the Ragi dashed on to the mam road near Raine’s shop, just as a tramcar from town pulled up at tho stopping-place. The motor-car driver proceeded on his way on the right side of the tramcar and knocked down a lad who had rust alighted from the tramcar. The boy was badly bruised and shaken, but was lucky in'escaping more serious injury, as the motor-car appeared t.o go right over him. The motarman severely upbraided the driver of the car for what he described as “callous and reckless driving,” and after taking the nuinber of the car, insisted upon being given the name and address of the driver. MAN ON. ROLLING STONE. NARROW ESCAPE" FROM DEATH AT WHAKATANE. Jack Mullane, when at the Whakatane Borough Council’s hydro-electric headworks, miraculously escaped death on Thursday evening. He was standing on a large stone weighing about two tons, when it rolled down hill, taking hint with it. The rock plunged over a waterfall. Mullane managed to throw himself free in time, and escaped certain death. He was seriously injured however, sustaining four fractured rib’s, which pierced his lungs. SIDE-CAR MISHAP. RACEGOER SEVERELY INJURED. Mr Thomas Lennard, formerly of Waihi, while returning to V\ aiohou from the Te Ar.oha races was thrown from a side-ear and very seriously injured. Mr Lennard lies m a precarious condition in the hospital. A MAN INJURED. FALL FROM TRAMCAR. A man named Will Tam Veall, 44 years a£ ago, a fireman off the Pakeha, tell from a tramcar in Lambton quay y esterday afternoon whilst m the act of boarding it. He received Wynnes to his head and was attended by Dr Agneß Bennett. Later he was admitted to the hospital, and was reported to be still unconscious at 11 o’clock last night.
