Captaiu A. H. Burn, who for the last two years has been officer commanding No. 4 Group, in Hamilton, has resigned. He will be succeeded temporarily by Captain E. Rowellings, of Faeroa, who has already taken up his duties, pending the arrival of Major H. C. Glendinning, D. 5.0., of Invercargill, who. has been appointed to succeed Captain Bum. A Press Association telegram from Timaru states that the death occurred yesterday of Mr John E. Hurdley, a prominent bumness man and a borough councillor for ten years. He was 65 years of age, was in the railway service as a stationmaster, and latterly in business in Timaru and Christchurch, dealing principally in fine Indian goods. Mr O. I). Paterson, advertising manager for Australasia for Messrs Gordon and Gotch, has been elected to the position of president of the New South Wales Institute of Advertising Men. Ho also holds the office of general treasurer to the Associated Advertising Institutes of Australia and New Zealand. Mr James Ryan, who has worked hard in the interests of the Potone Rugby Football Club, has been elected a life member.
