HIBERNIAN SOCIETY
AND AIARIST OLD BOYS. ANNUAL COMMUNION AND BREAKFAST. Upwards of 200 members all told of the Wellington Hibernian Society and the' Alarist Old Boys’ Association attended 8 o’clock Mass yesterday morning at St. Mary of the Angels Church, Boulcott street, for their annual general communion. The Rev. Father Mahoney, S.M., officiated, and afterwards preached a panegyric on the life of St. Patrick. In the oourse of his remarks, Father Mahoney reminded those present of St. Patrick’s great faith in prayer; and stated that in these troublous times, if people had more frequent recourse to prayer, it would greatly help them in their difficulties. He congratulated the "two societies on their excellent muster and demonstration of faith. After the service, the members of the two organisations adjourned to the Marble Bar, Manners street, for their annual breakfast. Mr O. Krohm presided. and the Rev. Father Mahoney was also present; while apologies were received from Their Graces Archbishops Redwood and O'Shea, who were unable to attend on account of absence from Wellington. « The principal toast was “Ireland a Nation, proposed by Mr M. J. Reardon, and responded to by Mr J. P. McGowan (chairman of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration committee). Other toasts were: —“Kindred Societies,” proposed by Mr J. J. L. Burke, and responded to by Air J. A. Scott (Catholic Federation), Miss U. Bezar (Ladies’ Branch of the Hibernian Society), Air Sievens (president of the Marist. Old Boys’ Association), and Mr McCarthy (president of the Thorndon Branch of 'the Hibernian Society); and “Past Officers of the Hibernian Society,’* proposed by Mr M. Walsh, and responded to by Air C. B. Redmond, who joined on its foundation night in 1874.
