INDIA’S INTERNAL STRIFE
NEED FOR ADEQUATE ARMY ' EMPHASISED. DANGER OF AGITATION. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Alarch 12, 12.40 a.m.) DEIjHI, Alarch 10. i The Indiana are attacking the expenditure in the Legislative Assembly, demanding a reduction and the Indianisatibn of the army. Sir Godfrey Fell, Army Secretary, in a masterly defence of the Government, stated that it would ho the height of criminal folly if, in the conditions existing, adequate provision were not made for tie army. The Commander-in-Chief referred to the Bolshevik menace, the fanatical frontier tribe© and internal unrest, and said that if the internal situation were cleared up and' the non-co-operation agitators ceased to lead astray the ignorant and gullible masses, the Assembly would be justified in asking for a reduction in military expenditure, but a reduction now entailed grave and serious risks. The force provided in the Budget would at least give India a reasonable degree of security.
