The Greeks have substantially accepted the terms recently cabled, subject to certain modifications. Sami Bey, the Kemalist delegate, returns to Angora to consult his Government. Tho Greeks are also returning to obtain tho sanction of their Government. The Supreme Council will remain in session until it hears Dhe result. Tho "Daily Chronicle’* says that tho modifications ot* tho Sevres Treaty include the Allied evacuation of Constantinople and the demilitarisation of the Straits. Allied garrisons being maintained only at Gallipoli and Chanak. The Turks will be allowed to cooperate with the Allied Financial Control Commission. The Turkish soyeUreignitv over Smyrna will be maintain- } ed by flying the Turkish flag and tho ! Turks will be guaranteed Dio free use jof the port of Smyrna. Both elements ! of the population have interests to be | safeguarded. The independence of Ar- ! menia will bo fully guaranteed.

An earlier message* stated:—Ifc is understood ' tbafc Mr Lloyd George, on behalf of Britain, has suggested modifications to the Turkish Treaty, particularly in regard to tho military and financial clauses, the delimitation of the straits area, also the clauses relating to Smyrna, in tho direction of maintaining Turkish sovereignty while providing adequate representation of the interests of b.oth the Turkish and Greek population. It wa6 agreed that M. Briaud and Count Sferza (Italy) should subipifc tho suggestions to the Turks, while Mr Lloyd George and Lord Curzon submitted them to the Greeks. After receiving the proposals, both delegations obtained time for consideration.
