Captain Evans, of the British cruiser Carlisle, who was a member of the Scott Antarctic Expedition, personoily saved the lives of one hundred 'Chinamen in the wreck of the Hong Moii. on Jjimook Island, off Swatow, in which 800 Chinese were drowned.
