PRICE OF BREAD
FIGURE FOR FLOUR FIXED. * • BREAD TO COST SEVENBENCE OVER COUNTER. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. The prices of bread, flour, bran and pollard were considered by Cabinet at a meeting held after the rising of the House yesterday afternoon. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister for Industries and Commerce (the Hon. Mr Lee) made the following statement:—
“The Government has decided to fir the price of flour on the basis of £2l per ton, f.0.b., Lyttelton, Timaru, and Camaru, and to pay a subsidy to millers of £1 10s per ton on flour manufactured and sold during the' year. The price of bran has been fixed at £6 per ton, f.0.b., southern ports; and pollard at £9 per ton, f.0.b., southern port" There are, of course, minor details to be considered, and it is hoped to have the Order-m-Council fixing the prices pt-ssed at a meeting of the Executive Cruncil on Monday. The new prices w ill come into operation immediately on the Daseing of the Order-in-Council on Monday. “The Government haa further decided that the cash-ovcr-the-countcr price of bread in the South Island shall be 6Jd per 21b loaf; and 7d per 21b loaf in the North Island, with an exrta halfpenny for delivery and an extra farthing for booking. “The existing provision giving the Beard of Trade power to vary these prices in remote districts has been maintained.”
