HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
AMENDMENT TO ADDREBS-IN-RKPLY. LIBERAL LEADER GIVES NOTICE. AN EMPHATIC PROTEST. Tho House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. yesterday, the Hon. the Speaker (Sir F. W. Lang) in the chair. Black Rod shortly afterwards appeared and announced that His Excellency the Governor-General desired the presence of hon. members in the Legislative Council Chamber. The House thereupon emptied. Hon. members returned to the Chamber at 2.42 p.m., and Mr Speaker then laid on the table the Speech from the Throne, a copy of which he had obtained. LIBERAL LEADER’S MOTION. The first notice of motion was given by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr T. M. Wilford, Hutt),-who intimated that on the Address-in-Reply he would move the following amendment: —“That this House is of opinion that the Dominion should be adequately represented at (he projected Imperial Conference; but, in view of the grave issues before the country affecting every department of State and the important questions waiting to be dealt with, it records its emphatic protest against the holding up of (he country’s business by the prorogation pf Parliament beyond the usual time.” SHOP HOURS BILL. Tho Hon. G. J. Anderson gave notice of his intention to introduce the Shops and Offices Act, 1920, Amendment Bill. ADDRESS-IN-REPLY'. Mr X. S. Williams (Bay of Plenty)
