LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

A (BRIEF SITTING. The Legislative Council hold a short sitting after the opening ceremony. Business was transacted in the new chamber. HON. JOHN BARR SWORN IN. Messages were read from His Excellency formally notifying the Council of the death of the Hon. G. Jones, M.L.C., and of the expiration of the term of tho Hon. John. Barr’s appointment. A message announcing the reappointment by writ of summons dated January 22nd, 1921, of the Hon. John Barr was read, and Mr Barr was sworn in. LEAVE OF ABSENCE'. A message from the Governor-General was read notifying that he had granted leave of absence to the Hon. Colonel W. D. H. Baillie for the session. On the motion of tho Hon. G. J. Garland leave of absence for tho remainder of the session was granted the Hon. Major B. Harris, and leave for one week was granted the Hon. P. J. Nerheny. ADDRESS IN REPLY. Sir William Hall-Jones gave notice of motion that on *noxt sitting day a respectful address in reply to His Libeller cy’a address be agreed to. At 2.55 the Council adjourned till 2.30 p.m. on Monday.
