He had an enthusiastic welcome in the streets, especially in the poorer districts. He inspected & number of works of art in. the tradeshouse, where he was installed as a guild brother. A touching incident occurred when the Prince, noticing a number of crippled and limbless soldiers watching from a roofless building, mounted a dark stairway and shook hands with each man until he came to a soldier minus both arms and another with both legs amputated, at which the Prince burst into tears.
