MATTERS BEFORE THE CHRIST! CCBUROH CONFERENCE. PROPOSED DOMINION AWARD. *>EB PBESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. The Pharmaceutical Conference discussed a remit dealing with the employment of unqualified persona as dispensers at public hospitals, and passed the following resolution: * 'The conference protests against unregistered, dispensers being in charge of the dispensing at public hospitals, andi that where inexpedient for a registered chemist to be on the staff then dispensing should be done by a local registered chemist.” Remits from the Auckland and Wellington divisions regarding chemists’ hours were discussed at length. It was decided te reaffirm the resolution of last year’s conference that an amendment be sought to section 17 of the Police Offenders Act. It was also decided that application he made for a Dominion award for chemists’ assistants and managers. The next conference wjll be held at Auckland. It was decided that the Pharmacy Board he recommended to raise the standard of subjects at present comprising section A of ihe examination. The opinion was general that matriculation should he the standard, hut it was recognised that it was inopportune to do so at present. It was hoped, however, that it would not he long before they made it the standard. It wae decided that representations be made to the Minister for Publio Health that a chemist should be included on the Board of Health by 174 votes to 157. It was decided that the annual subscription under the Pharmacy Act be one guinea (10b at pre^nt). The president, Mr Tingey, explained a number of proposed amendments te the Poisons Bill, which was rejected ip 1911, and the conference decided to leave the question of promoting a hill to amend the Poisons Act in the hands of the Pharmacy Board. Is was decided that representations be made to have tlie sale of medicated wines placed on a more satisfactory basis. „
