THREE VACANCIES

SUPREME COURT BENCH. SIR J. SALMOND AND MR J. R. REED APPOINTED. The following statement with Tegard to vacancies on and pending appointments to the Supreme Court Bench was made by the Prime Minister yesterday: “Mr Justice Edwards has resigned hie office as judge of the Supreme Court, and His Excellency has been advised to appoint Sir John Salmond, who is at present a temporary judge, to fill the vacant seat. ' further vacancies will shortly occur—one by .reason of Mr Justice Chapman attaining the age prescribed by tlie Judicature Act for retirement, and the other by the resignation of Mr Justice Cooper, who has informed the Government of his intention in that respect. “Appointment to the first of these two vacancies has been offered to, and accepted by, Mr J. R. Reed, K..C.”
