KARORI MERGED
IN GREATER WELLINGTON. , AIAKARA FARAIERS OBJECT As the result of a petition signed by one-fourth of the ratepayers of the Afakara hill portion of the old Karori borough, now merged in the City of Wellington, the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. J. Anderson) set up a Commission to inquire into the objection lodged by the petitioners against the inclusion of their portion in the city. The Commission, which comprised Air AT. G. Riddell, S3I. (chairman), Air G. H. AlcOure (ComI missioner of Crown Lands), and Air F. N. Alartin (the Government Valuer), commenced its sittings yesterday morning. Mr T. M. Wilford appeared on he* half of the objectors. and the Makara County Council, and the city solicitor (Mr J. O’Shea) for the City Council, winch contended that the whae of the land included in the area proposed to be excluded from the city drained into the natural watercourses, which ran through Karori, and that the control of those lands was therefore necessary, in order that the city should be able to control all the watercourses in the interests of the whole of the inhabitants of the Karori portion of Greater Wellington. Formal business only was transacted, and the Commission then adjourned until 10.30 a.m. on Alonday next, in order tifht the' members might view the properties in question. At the conclusion of the hearings the Commission will give no finding, but will report to the Internal Affairs ; Department as to whether or not it considers it reasonable and equitable that the whole or any part of the area owned by the objectors should be excluded from the new city boundaries
