Dealing with the housing question, the “Auckland' Herald” indulges in a growl at' tlio.'disparity .in the number of houses, in.’tuo';building of which the State is interested, so far as Wellington and Auckland are concerned. It points btit that while in Wellington 189 (?)’houses are under construction, 6 completed, and 350 projected, Auckland,'hAs' only 14 houses under construction, and 100 would be ungracious to dispute the pressing needs of the capital city, but it ’is difficult to believe they ,are so overwhelming as to justify these figures. So lopsided, indeed, is * the first instalment of the housing .programme that almost half; the - .Statp “expenditure is being concentrated in Wellington. Thus at the end of June there were 139 houses under construetion in Wellington'; in •'the'whole Dominion 305; 6 houses had been completed in WelHngtorvfijq Dominion 13 ; and. 350, I hpuseetP’ ere P r0 * jected in Wellington; in;the .whole Dominion 780.
