A COAL PURCHASE
75,000 TONS FROM AUSTRALIA. The Prime Minister stated to a “Times” reporter that an officer of the Railway Department had completed tlio purchase of 75,000 tons pf Australian coal, to which tho Prime Minister of Australia had assented. “This,” said. Mr Massey, “is in addition to the purchase of a smaller quantity which was previously made. There seems to have been some difficulty in getting the deal through on account of interference by interested parties. It is quite evident the transaction could not have been completed without the influence of the Australian Prime Minister-” The Railway Department will have first claim upon the supplies, and the balance will probably be allotted to tho public.
