OPENING or BOWLING GBEEN. A number of bowling' clubs aro opening their respective bowling seasons this afternoon Tho wet weather that has prevailed at short intervals for some months past: has prevented the greens from hardening after their treatment, of topdressing, but they are showing a wealth of grass that augurs well in. regard to their holding a good playting surface during the summer. At the Wellington Bowling Club's grounds expensive, improvements have been undertaken, and the work in connection with the Peace Memorial Gates and now approach are almost completed. Tho Hutt bowling season is also to bo opened to-day, and us these grounds are as picturesque and as beautiful as any in the Dominion a largo attendance of tbo public is anticipated. Jlataitai and Newtown greens, which are noted for the'excellency of their playing surfaces, will bo declared open, as will the Kelburn, Island Bay, and Lyall Bay greens.
