CHILDREN’S MATINEE TO-DAY. TO-NIGHT’S BIG ATTRACTION. The second of the three demonstration concerts in connection v.'ith the competitions was given by the various prize-winners in the Grand Opera House last night in the. presence of a fair attendance. The initial item of a really high-class and -well-selected programme was a pianoforte duct, “Tarantello,” given by Miss Helena Keane and Miss Elsie Ives. Items were contributed by the following competitors; —'Character Song, “Tatters,” Master' John Watters; action recitation, “The Three Rears/’ Miss Jean Drew; skipping dance, Miss Joyce Julian; girl’s song, “Good Night, Pretty Stars,” Miss Nellie Amies; boy’s recitation, “The Union Jack,” Master Willie Knox; sword dance, Master W. Grown, character recitation, “Jack Frost,” Miss Joyce Whitehead; English song, “She Wandered Down the Mountain Side,” Miss Marjorie Clark; recital (with musical accompaniment), “The Forest Legion,” Miss Ivy Middlemiss; rose ballet, Miss Guise’s pupils; juvenile choir, “Before the Sun Awakes the Morn,” Taranaki street Methodist Sunday School; piano solo, “Rhapsody No. 8” (Liszt), Miss Thelma G. Gallaher; humorous song in character, “Old Party,” Mr P. L. Brady; violin solo, “Allegro Brilliantc,” Miss Lilas Rube; tost recital, “Napoleon’s Tomb,” Mr K. S. Dillon; vocal solo (accompanied by self), “The Sweetest Flower that Blows,” Mrs Lo Petit; character recital, “Nydia, the Blind Slave Girl,” Miss Florence Churchill; Highland fling (open), Miss May Thorne; Scotch song, “Annie Laurie,” Mr A. L. Pickett; clog dance, Miss Thelma McKenzie; male quartette, Harmonic Quartette party; Shakespearean recitation, “Lorenzo’s Speech,” Mr J. J. Deere; soprano solo, “Morning and You,” Miss Doris Clarke; Piano duet (open), “Finale Concerto” (Weber), 13. F. Taner and Croxford: Reel of Tulloch, May Thorne, Joan McKenzie, Heather Adair, Amy Ramsay. . * This afternoon the matinee programme will be entirely given by the winning children of the Competitions, and promises to ho an entertainment well worth seeing. The Governor-Gen-eral (Lord Jollicoe) and Lady Jcllicoe, and the Right Hon. W. F. Massey and Mrs Massey will he amongst those present. This evening at 8 o’clock the final demonstration concert will be given, concluding with the presentation of prizes.
