Mayor, is feeling a hit concerned about the r.ate of progress, in, tho building operations of the woorkcrsl dwelling? ; (writes ,the "Times" . Palmerptpn North correspondent). At the beginning of the year, remarked.the, Mayor, the council succeeded in gotling; a grant of £lO,000 itpon the condition that it must be expended before March 31st. 1921. At the prseht rate of progress, owing to the difficulty in securing supplies of cement, the amount would not bo expended- by that time. The point was to . expedite the. construction, aa the council, would- not he able to. claim another £IO,OOO, which would be. available on April Ist, 1921. ,- Councillor Crabb said-they had sufificient>, timber- in hand for six houses, but, the trouble was the shortage of cement. .-.,., , • ■, , The 'Mayor observed that the. workers' -dwellings .under construction in Wellington . were, costing tho,. City Council £1450. each, and. a five-roomed lloUso just built had cost £I7OO. Palmerston North were getting their houses built for, £lo*o. .
