WELFARE LEAGUE
WELLINGTON BRANCH. INDUSTRIAL CONFERENCE. At a well-attended meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Welfare League, Mr C. P. Skenrebt, president, occupied the chair. Mr Skeraett set forth an outline of the work and progress of the league since its inception, and reported that numerically, financially, and in regard to the held of its operations the' league was much stronger than ever it had been. The officers reported that the educational propaganda work was proving very successful. The leagued has in hand the issuing of a regular monthly publication to supply special information tp members and supporters. Suggestions were considered for tlio creation of a social guild, attached to the league, for purposes of mutual education, study, and the development of social interests. By request of the chairman, Mr McLaren described what progress had been made in the way of endorsement of the league's proposaJ_ for the calling of a national industrial conference. Slr-O. Shirtcliffe moved: "That this' meeting heartily endorses the proposal made by the national executive of the league that tho Government should be requested to call a national confer, ence 'of employers and workers, to consider and Advise upon the general industrial problems, and the best methods of settling industrial disputes." This was seconded by Mr S. Kirkcaldie, and carried unanimously. Discussion of various aspects of the league's work took place, and so terminated what was considered a voiy satisfactory meeting.
