The House of Uopresentatives sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday, and after consideration of questions jjnd other business wont into comruittco on the Crimes intendment Bill. AN AMENDMENT. Speaking to Clause 2 Mr R. McCallum (Wairau) protested ayainst the power being given the Court of Appeal to increase sentences. He moved to amend fhcj clause to the effect that the same or a lesser sentence could bo imioscd. The Minister said he would like to see the right of appeal against possible error, but. if the committee wished Mr McCallum's amendment ho would not opvoso it. The amendment was agreed to. The remaining clauses were agreed to without amendment. The bill was reported from committee, read a third time, and passed. A TARANAKI BILL. Mr S. G. Smith (Taranaki) gave notice to ask leave to introduce the New Plymouth Recreation and Eacecourse Reserve Amendment Bill. FINANCE DEIBATE. The evening session was occupied with the Finance Debate (reported elsewhere in the "Times") and the House rose at 11 p.m.
