PROBLEM OF PRICES
GHARGES OF PROFITEERING CHRISTCHURCH CASES ADJOURNED. PBE ?EESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. The cases in which Mr Collins, secretary of tho Board of Trade, laid informations against certain Christchurch and Lyttelton firms were .listed for hearing to-day at' the Christeiiurc.il Magistrate's Court. The charges were as follow:
Aitoliison.'Steans Co., Ltd., genend importers and manufacturers' agents, were charged: (1) That on January lOfcli wiey did sell to W. E. > Donrnthorne one thousand "Clarence" cigarettes at a price, namely, 02s 2d per thousand, winch was unreasonably hia'i and contrary to statute; (2) a similar sale to B. Ooira -, (3) on January 17th a.similar sale to J. Kent; (4) on January 17th a similar sale to li Haley; (5) on January 17th a similar sale pj K Jlones; (6) on'January 10th a similar sale ta Mrs Williams.
Benjamins, Ltd., general merchants, Christchurch, were charged that on January 6th they sold 5(X> "Clarence" cigarettes to Hulston and Skinner at 2d per thousand. Bernard Darby, trading as Wallace and Co., chemist, Christchurch, was charged with selling to Robert E. Alexander half a gallon of borol at a price univasonablv high, namely, 45u, and contrary t)oi statute.
Forbes, Ltd., ironmongers, Lyttelton, were charged that thry oilered to sell to Leslie Arthur Turner and Henry Voyoe rabbit-traps at 37e per dozen, which prices were unreasonably ly-iih and contrary to statute. Tho heaoring oif the cases waa adjourned until August- 31st.
