AN ENFORCED STAY
CHATHAM ISLANDERS IN NEW ZEALAND. GOVERNMENT TO SEND THE TUTANEKAI. PEE PEESB ASSOCIATION. CHRIST OH URCH, July 26. About thirtv residents of Onatham Islands- have been marring an enforced stay on the mainland ol iSew Zealand, extending over many weeks owing to their liability to secure steamer passages to the Islands. The position was recently brought under the notice of the Government by Mr C. Wishart, a prominent resident of the Group, and as a result of-his interviews with tho Prime Minister and the Minister tor Marine, the latter is arranging for the Government ■ steamer. Tutanekai to make the trip to the islands in about three weeks’ time. In addition to' the 30 passengers the Tutanekai will take about 60 tons of general cargo and 15,000 feet of timber. Tho general cargo will be particularly welcome at tho Group, as a considerable time has elapsed sinec tho last steamer from New Zealand paid a call there, and the rosidenst tb are probably now short of certain supplies. The Tutanekai will make Lyttdolton her final port of departure from New Zealand.
