Heavy rainfall throughout the country interfered with the week's cricket. Some of the county matches were abandoned. Improved weather to-day enabled the Eton-Harrow match to commence at Lords. Tho wicket was greatly in the bowlers' favour. Harrow made 85 in the first innings and Eton 103. Harrow, in their second innings, scored 148 for the loss of nine wickets. Play was impossible in Mead's benefit match on Wednesday and Thursday owing to the rain and w-as finally abandoned. To-day, after a few hours, during which Hobbs gave a splendid exhibition, notching his eighth century of tho season, scoring 169 in 220 minutes, Surrey declared at 5 for 265, and Hampshire' had 23 on for no wickets when tho downpour stopped play. Fry scored 16 on his first appearance sinco The averages arc as follow: —Batting: Hendren 76.12, Ashton 67.8, Hobbs 65.23, Lee, Mead, and Hearne 03. Bowling: Parkin 10.10, Rhodes 11.12, Cook 12.03, Marriott 13.58, Leo 13.60. Bettington is ninth with 15.12.
