PRIVATE SCHOOL PROPERTY. The rateable proptrey in the- Petone Borough is probably tne smallest of any borough in New Zealand on account of the largo areas of land hold by the Government. In order, it was explained, to distribute' the total rates to be collected as equitably as possible, Councillor Hay moved a>t the meeting of the Potono Council last night that all private school property bo placed on tho valuation roll. The motion occasioned considerable discussion, but it was eventually carried. , Tho "Mayor' (Mr J. TV. McEwen) said that it Q would bo fairer if all church 'and school properties wero rated.
