THE RAILWAY STRIKE
FARMERS FAVOUR, INCREASED Tho following resolution hag been forwarded to the Minister for Railways by tho Cambridge branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, in connec-t-ion with the recent railway strike: “Whilst deploying the strike, particularly on tho occasion of th e Royal visit, that taking into account the responsible work undertaken by the railwayman, oftentimes arduous and risky, and entailing long hours and in all weathers, their long record of loyal service, and the importance to tho general public of having the service carried, on by a loyal and satisfied personnel, the Cambridge branch of tho' Farmers’ Union earnestly desires you to give further early consideration to the claims •of the several Unions of Railwayman, with a view to granting increased pay, particularly to married men, although realising that that will entail a further increase in goods and passenger rates.’’
