BENEFIT ENTERTAINMENT BOXING AND ATHLETIC , DISPLAYS AT TOWN HALL. For the purpose of augmenting the funds required to ensure the sending ot a New Zealand athletic team to the Olympic Games at Antwerp in August a special boxing entertainment was held at th o Town Hall .on Saturday evening. The* action of the organisers ot the exhibition came iu very opportunely* though the attendance, waa not as largo ns tlie canse merited, sail, a fatrly substantial sum' wias realised to swell the local quota towards the amount necessary to finance the team s tour. Those who'.attended were treated to an interesting and varied programme, in which boxing contests wore intermingled with . interesting athletic exhibitions by leading exponents or Ikx‘“yoiiimy Hum, the brilliant Sydney boxev, who is at present visiting the Dominion (and who meets Trite Hoi land at the Town Hall to-night), and Meehan the well-known New Zealand middle-weight, opened the entertainment with an exhibition spar. Uron simply played with his opponent displaying splendid nngcraft, and if his exhibition to-night, wiieh he meets Holland, is on a par with his allowing on Saturday, tbo contest should be uou worth seeing. U.ron aleo gave an. oxhibition of sidestepping, hopping, and dancing showing himself an expert exponent in the essential details ot boxing H. Morgan (6.10) and Black (6 12) took the ring ior the second item of tho evening. Havilah Uren, a brother' of the pro, fessional- visitor, and Kerr, the Wellington feather-weight, appeared in three two-minute rounds. This ‘ contest proved decidedly attractive. Hren boxed with whirlwind energy, displaying forcing tactics throughout. Ho was veryquick and skilful, with a" dangerous left, and clever at in-fighting.

At tho conclusion of the evening Mr 4. Marryatt, chairman of the Olympic Council, extended the thanks of the council to those present and to those who had contributed to (die programme, and said ho looped that the balance of ,£2lO still required to cover the expenses of the team would be forthcoming, so that the New Zealand representatives could take their part in tho Olympic Games contests.
