Mr Thornhill has been for some years in charge of the Brookfield Church, Manchester, one of the largest Unitarian churches in England. Licutenaht-Colonel A; F. Batchelar» of the 6th (Manawatu) 31ounted Riflc», has been invested with the insignia of the Order of the Nile, 3rd class, by Colonel C. W. Mclvill, Officer. Commanding the Wellington Military District, at Palmerston North. The Order was bestowed upon Colonel Batchelar by His Highness the Sultan of Egypt, for consistent and gallant services rendered with the New Zealand Mounted Rifle* dur'a.? -the campaign in Palestine. Th« recipient left New Zealand as ri: lieutenant in the Main Body, and"* served with the Mounted Rifles on Gallipoli and subsequently against the Turkish forces on tho Sinai Peninsula and in Palestine, tho operations culminating in the complete surrender of the Turkish army in October, 1918. During th« latter-campaign he "was wounded, ro. "ceived promotion, and eventually at. tamed command of. his regiment. Lieu-tenant-Colonel Batchular also served with the New Zealanders in the South African War.- Ho is a son of Mr J. O. Batchelar, of Fitzherbert West, Palmerston North.
