A WARNING. PBB PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTGHTOfIOH, March 23. A Belgian woman named Jane Beck was brought rather sharply to recognition of tho (requirements of £>cw Zealand's* alien registration laws by being brought- before Mr MoCarWiy, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day charged *rith b«ing an alien who, being required to bo registered under the Registration of Aliens Act, 1917, failed to make application for registration within tho time and in tho manner prescribed by that Act. . ■ Senior-Sbrgeant Cummingß sold tho defendant stated .she thought it was unnecessary to register as an alien in tho ordinary, way, as eho was « Belgian, and Bolgium was an Ally. A great number of unregistered aliens wore still in New Zealand, and tho Government Statistician -was very anxious to have them registered. He had ordered tho prosecution merely to give publicity to the need foi r» gietration, and asked for only a nominal penalty. There -was no suggostion that tho defendant had endeavoured to evade registration. The magistrate: You must understand that all who are -not Britishers aro required to register. Your failure to do so has rendered you liable to a fine of £SO. However, you aro apparently not at fault, and I snail convict and discharge you.
