TRADES COUNCIL

PROTEST TO GOVERNMENT. “STRANGLING STATE COAL DEPARTMENT.” The annual meeting' of the' Welling, ton Trades and Labour Oonncil was held' at the Trades Hall on Thursdayevcning. < The following resolution was passed. —‘.‘That this council enters an emphatic protect against the position in connection with the State Coal Department, in that for three months "while private dealers have had coal with which to fulfil some orders, an order for coal has not been taken at the State Depot; that it appears as if tho Massey Government is endeavouring to strangle this useful'department in the interests of private dealers; this council calls upoii the ' Government to at once let its quota of coal go through the State Depot.” The following nominations were received for the several offices in connection with tho 'council for the ensuing year:—President. Messrs E. J. Kennedy and W. Atkinson; vice-presi-dent, Sir A. Murray: secretary, Messrs J. M. Campbell and J. Read; two trustees, Messrs M. J. Reardon and W Waterwork s management committed, Messrs G. Bodell, E. J. Kennedy, W Cooner, W. Atkinson. J. Hunter, and P. j. O'Neill; delegates to Labour .Representation Committee, K. Brennan, J. Hynes and H, Sim; representative on the Workers’ Educational Association, Mr E. Cornwell. Tho will take place on April Ist at 1 lades Hall.
