FRIGHT FOR BURGLARS
TOO MTJOH GELIGNITE. Burglars effected an entry into the premises .of the Fletcher Steel Construction Works, in Nelson street, Auckland. A small safe, containing a little over £1 in cash, was taken out and blown cren with gelignite, this being done on a vacant section alongside the office. Tho operators were evidently not very well versed in the explosive force of gelignite, for they used four plugs. The door of the safe was blown to a considerable distance, and the steel of which it was constructed was torn like paper. The contents were' scattered, nod if the thieves returned, which is improbable, they could not have secured any of the small sum of money contained in the safe. The explosion was loud enough to be heard hundreds of yards away, and this apparently frightened the lurglars, preventing them, from reluming to secure the iruits of their efforts. Many people in tho TUinity were alarmed by the noise of tho explosion. .
