SOLDIER'S BUSINESSES
PROTECTION REMOVED, • In August, 1918, the attention of the Government -was directed to the necessity for providing some measure of protection for the businesses of men enlisting or being called up for active service, and with this endi in view the soldiers' businesses regulations were gazetted jinder the War Retaliations Act, , The administration of the regulations was placed in the hands of the National Efficiency Board, and it was provided, inter alia, that no person could commence a business or a profession in certain specified lines, without first obtaining a permit under the regulations from the National Efficiency Board. Upwards of 200 of these permits were issued, but only where, after inquiry, the board was satisfied that the proposed now business or profession would nob prejudicially affect the business or profession of a soldier who was absent on active service or in camp. Now that practically all the_ soldiers have returned' to the Dominion, the protection has been withdrawn, and by "iGazette Extraordinary" the regulations are revoked. '
