tfgr THE AWARUA SEAT. Press Afisociation. INVERCARGILL, November 9. At a largo and representative meeting of district residents at Winton on Saturday it was unanimously resolved that the Awarua seat be contested, and after a number of possible candidates had been mentioned, several of whom would not consent to stand, Mr J. R. Hamilton, who unsuccessfully opposed Sir Joseph Ward at last election, was unanimously invited to contest the seat, and after considerable pressure consented to nomination. A representative body of Wallace electors, all farmers, journoyed to Winton on Saturday and urged Mr Adam Hamilton, brother of Mr J. 11. Hamilton, to stand for Wallace. Mr Hamilton agreed to do so if suitable business aaugoments can bo made. EASTERN MAORI ELECTORATE. GISBORNE, November 9. Hon. Ngata states he will again bo a candidate for Eastern Maori electorate at tho forthcoming election. A PAHIATUA CANDIDATE. WOODVILLE, November 8. Mr Bice, a candidate for the Pahiatua seat, spoke here la6t night to a largo audience. He dealt mainly with the land quostion, State banking, shipping, and the of the coal mines. Replying to questions, the speaker said he considered it a good thing that the three issuos were to he put to the electors at tihe Prohihibition poll. Personally, he always struck out the top line. He was in favour of a State bank, but not in favour of taking over the Bank of New Zealand. Votes of thanks and confidence were carried unanimously. The friends and supporters of Mr F. Pirani, tho Liberal candidate for Wellington Central, are asked to meet him at the Liberal Party's room, Winder's Building (corner of Cuba and Manners streets) to-night at 8 o'clock. Mr Dunbar Sloane, Liberal candidate for the Suburbs seat, will open his campaign at Johnsonvillo tonight. Mr W. H. Fieold, will deliver his opening addross in the Otak; campaign at Waikanae to-morrow night. Mr E. Macdonold, "Progressive •ion-part* oand>dat«" £or Otaki advertises coming meetings.
