COMPANIES FINED
FAILURE TO TAKE OUT LICENSES. It -was intimated in the Magistrate's Court yesterday that it was intended to take action in all cases where companies had failed to take out the annual licenses. There was considerable slackness and in future prosecutions would follow all breaches of the law in this connection. For failing to comply with the Stamp Duties Act of 1806, the Minerals Prospecting Company was finepl £-10, and costs £1 8s; the Karao Brick, Tile, and Pottery Oomrjany £4 and costs £1 8s; Btapley and Smith (Colonial) Company .£2 and costs £1 8s; the Hawefa Paint Company and the British. Paint Company were each fined, £2 and costs £1 Bs. Mr J. R. Prendeville, of the Crown Law Office, prpsecuted on behalf of the department.
