NATIONAL RELIEF
GRANT FOR OVERSEAS SETTLEMENT. United Service Telegram. (Received November 7, 12.50 a.m). LONDON. November 4. it is announced that a conference at the Colonial Office of the National Belief Fund placed £260,000 at the disposal of the Overseas Settlement Committee for assistance to persons who have suffered hardship through the war and deiro to emigrate to the Dominions. Another quarter of a million will be available later if required. The Dominions’ representatives have agreed that the money be used to pay railway and shipping fares, buy outfits of clothing and provide maintenance until employment is found. The applicants who will he mostly persona seeking employment, must bo approved by tho High Commissioner or Agent-Gene-ral. The scheme operates immediately. Colonel Amory stated that ho was examining the whole question of tho inadequacy of berths for the Dominions.
