WAR PENSIONS

imi’URNED SOI/DIERS’ ASSO'CttATION CONSIDERATION. The question ‘of war pensions was considered by the conference of the N.Z.11.5.A. Inst night. Mr J. D. Harper, chairman of the pensions committee, moved the following recommendation for the committee: —‘That the schedule 'of pensions for specific injuries of the War Pensions Act, 1017, be increased by the addition of plus percentages up to 150 per cent, (that is, £3 per week) supplementary pensions and attendant’s pension to be over and abovo such rate, and that the dependent's pensions bo assessed at present rates.” Mr Harper stated that :f plus percentages were adopted, the Pensions Board would be able to rectify several existing anomalies. Dr E. Boxer (association referred to the adoption of plus percentages in France, where it was found that 100 per cent, was insufficient, and for certain injuries exceeded that. Air 13. F. Andrews (Auckland) paid that tho 11.5. A. had not done its work properly in connection with questions. It was responsible for tho fact that to-day tho broken men who had returned wore not getting a fair deal. These men were entitled to a fairer deal in the future than they had had in the past. 2ir A. B. Sievwright (Wellington) charged tho Pensions Board that although the Act of 1915 said that the pensions might bo reduced to lower rates than those specified in the Act, tho board had taken upon itself to pay no pensions whatever. At this stage it was pointed out ihat so many delegates had retired that there was not a quorum present, and tho discussion lapsed until to-day.
