Concerning the Triple Alliance ballot Sir R. S. Homo (Alinister for Labour), interviewed, stated that direct action means the end of democracy and tho empowering of a recalcitrant minority to enforce decisions upon a majoriyy. Force, aided by terrorism and blackmail, will become the only instrument of government. Air J. R. dynes said that direct action proposes to reverse Labour’s political endeavours by substituting disorder and violence, which would destroy democratic effort.

Air Sexton, a Labour member, stated that direct action was not only mistaken; and foolish, but criminal, and would result in civil war.

The “Star” says that the' Syndicalists hoped to use the police strike ns a “jumping-off ground” for a general strike. The handling of the situation by the Homo Office, and public disapproval, have helped to cripple tho revolutionary wing of Labour, The Yorkshire miners have expended nearly £250,000 in strike pay. There is acute distress in many mining villages, and arrangements are being made for tho public feeding of children.

The Coal Committee has finally refused the Yorkshire miners’ demands. There are indications that the strikers’ funds will be exhausted in the next fortnight. It is stated in responsible circles that the collapse of the police strike and the complete failure of the unauthorised action of the railwayman have greatly strengthened the hands of the constitutional side of the Labour movement.
