PROHIBITION AND SACRAMENTAL WINE
At the meeting of the executive of the New "Zealand Alliance, held yesterday it -was reported that, in , answer to representations made to the. Attorney-General oh the qusetion of the regulations regarding exemption op Sacramental Trine, he had rephed a^ "I refer to your letter of the 14th instant, on the suhjoct of regulatioM which will he made in the event ol prohibition being carried at ihe special licensing poll on April 10th with reference, to wine for Sacramental purposes. . , "In reply, I have the honour to inform you that I am authorised by, ■ Cabinet to state that in the event of] prohibition being carried, regulation* ; under sub-section 2 of section 21 of the Licensing Amendment Act, 1918/ will provide for the importation by jthe several churches of wine for SacraI mental purposes in such quantities as any church may require for lengthened | periods, the churches being required i to give sufficient security that the wine bo imported shall not be U6ed for other than Sacramental purposes. ■'■ "I make.this official statement be> cause, as you say, the question is a matter of vital moment, and' of farreaching influence, to many person* , who may record their yotea.'i , .-'
